Part II of Dutch Touch at Pret-A-Porter presents the designers Angelos Bratis, Mada van Gaans and Joline Jolink.

Angelos Bratis
In his new collection for Autumn-Winter 07/08, Angelos Bratis takes his technique a step further. Using rich swatches of silk, lace or tulle, he creates garments on a mannequin by patiently draping, wrapping, folding and pinning the material, working with its more supple, pliant bias wave so that it gently embraces and enhances the body. Chocolate brown, night blue, warm grey and his favorite defined black create an intimate portrait of a lady who seeks luxury and lives it naturally.

Angelos Bratis was born on one of the most exquisite spots of Greece. Growing up in the dramatic scenery of the Greek landscape shaped his aesthetic nature. His work is always sourced with the elements of wind, sea, sky, shadows and light. His perspective on women is a profound reflection of a woman in all her contradictions and complexities. She can be ethereal, sensitive and powerful. She is a mother, lover, woman, daughter, goddess and nomad whenever she decides to.

In Athens, Bratis studied at the Veloudakis School. He refined his designer skills at the Fashion Institute Arnhem and among others worked as a designer at Gattinoni Couture in Rome. He is 28 and has so far developed 7 collections presented in Paris, Amsterdam, Athens, Rome and New York. Bratis is currently based in Athens where he works with his mother and aunt who are seamstresses in the true sense of craftsmanship. He has a wide range of customers and boutiques in Greece, Paris, and Rome.

Mada van Gaans Collection Autumn/Winter 2007-2008
The collection 'The Frozen Age' continues the journey through the secret garden that was the inspiration for Mada's previous collection, which she presented in Amsterdam in July 2006 and during the New York Fashion Week in September 2006. In her new collection the garden is covered with icy flowers and winter leaves. Strolling through this mystic surrounding you will discover the little old chapel, with its refined windows covered with sparkling ice flowers, while outside amazingly beautiful snowflakes are dancing in the sky like a colourful swan's dance.

The Frozen Garden is originally inspired by the intense elements of the late gothic period around 1450 when the influence of luxury product-trading like oriental carpets, perfume and spices from the far east was rising. The collection features a youthful, ladylike and divine, yet girlish mix between the future and the past and eastern prints combined with western silhouettes.

Stunning woollen jackets with buyers are sensually combined with feminine miniskirts and high-tech leggings with Asian prints. Shiny silver leaves softly decorate warm winter-wool dresses, while the fine sound of playfully dancing silk cocktail-dresses cover the evening light of The Frozen Age with a slight roaring twenties tune. While the moon covers the snowflakes with its warmth, the tones of the cognac-colored suede dresses from the Need You by Mada van Gaans collection enlightened the garden. A small fireplace in the midst of the chapel brings out the distinguished smell of roasted chestnuts, while enjoying the fiery flames in a comfy yet high-end jogging outfit embroidered with silver fir-cones. The crochet ear warmers with a humoristic reference to the hair style of 1450 are developed by Dezibell for Mada van Gaans and the knitwear is specially designed for this collection by Julie Coste.

Mada van Gaans graduated from the MA at the Fashion Institute Arnhem in 2004. During her studies she did internships at Bernard Wilhelm and Oscar Suleyman and worked on a freelance basis at a forecast agency. In these years she experienced different aspects of the fashion world, such as the business aspect of it during trade fairs. In 2005 she designed a mini collection in collaboration with Lavazza as part of its international advertising campaign for 2005. She also collaborated with Longines Watches to create the Longines Belle Arti dressed by Mada van Gaans collection, for which she designed the watchbands. Mada aims to sell her designs in a selection of stores within the Netherlands and abroad. For the future Mada is continuing the production of her own collections as well as doing commissions in collaborations with other companies like Need You. Her designs are sensual, fluid, feminine, strong, detailed and they offen contain a playful note. Traditional craftsmanship is important to her, and she finds it a challenge to translate these techniques into new designs.

jolinejolink collection autumn/winter 07/08
The collection is inspired by the painting 'The Man with a Blue Quilted Sleeve' from Titian. The painting inspired Joline Jolink in the collections' colour, volume, and finishing. Joline's love for the 60's and 70's allows a focus on the waist to define the entire collection. This definition results in a fresh and sophisticated image in off-white, black, and blue. Subtle ton-sur-ton prints and textures of fabric give a luxurious feel to the garments.

The collection is best described as girly, yet distinctively classy and well dressed. The garments are highly comfortable and use only the finest of materials. Short and wide silhouettes contrasts slim, feminine shapes with a focus on the waist while ruffled details surprisingly appear throughout the entire collection. Super soft cotton-jersey, lycra-jersey, silk-jersey, cotton, wool and lammy are all used this season. In contrast to these soft materials, silver metal buttons and hooks are used as clasps. 70's suede and leather shoes and boots complete the collection.

Joline Jolink

Joline Jolink

Fashion designer Joline Jolink graduated from the master course Fashion Institute Arnhem in 2005 and worked as a freelance designer for several fashion brands and as an assistant designer for Viktor& Rolf.
She gained great attention with her collection 'Housewife with an eye for style' which she presented in an anarchistic way outside the fashion show of Celine during the Paris fashion week in March 2005, treating the fashion crowd to a poetic, winter scenery in the snow.

Joline spent most of 2005 traveling between Amsterdam, Paris and New York participating in the Dutch Touch shows, exhibitions and projects. She launched her label jolinejolink during the Amsterdam Fashion Week in January 2006. One year later Jolink sells her universal designs through stores in the Netherlands and in New York.

Joline strives to create comfort in her designs. Comfort, but also sensuality, by using feminine silhouettes and high quality, natural fabrics in an exiting mixture of texture and print: Joline's typical signature. Joline's style is by its simplicity and graphical touch surprisingly modern.
