Nine peruvian designers, selected and sponsered by PromPeru and Peru Moda, showed during the Pret-A-Porter in January 2008 their Alpaca. Because its extraordinary softness, lightness and versatility, this fibre is in demand by the luxury industry.
Important labels in Europe, United States and in Japan make use of it since 1920, like Dior, Hermes, Kenzo Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Zadig&Voltaire, Cacharel, Comptoir des Cotonniers etc.

For a couple of years the cattle, in collaboration with the government, are interested in breeding animals to obtain a fibre in a color, which is ready to get adapted to the colors needed in fashion, to increase the range of colours which comprises already about 22 natural shades.

The alpaca is a domestic animal which lives in an altitude of about 3500m. The wool is seven times warmer and 4 times more resitant than others and from the feeling like cashmere. More than 80% of the alpaca wool production in the world comes from Peru. Two types of alpaca exists : Suri and Huacaya.
