WILL NOMINATE BEST GERMAN NEWCOMERS

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin has found a new partner to ensure support for up-andcoming designers. Peek & Cloppenburg KG Düsseldorf will award 2 winners "Designer for Tomorrow". A high-ranking jury has chosen 8 candidates who will present their work on the catwalk in front of buyers, media and other fashion experts. The winners will receive a tailor-made sponsoring program. Peek & Cloppenburg KG Düsseldorf will provide them with their very own mentor, who will introduce them to the fashion world. Also they will be given an initial contract, to be managed independently by the designers.

"For us the support of young talent is an essential part of our engagement in fashion and we feel there is a huge need to guide these designers through the first steps of creating their own business," says Maia Guarnaccia, Vice President IMG Fashion Europe. "'Designer for Tomorrow by Peek & Cloppenburg Düsseldorf' is an ideal format for that goal. This award does not just hand out money, but the winners will be accompanied by an expert of the industry, so they learn to make the right choices at the beginning of their career."

Another unique characteristic of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin Autumn/Winter 2009 is the homecoming of German designers. Bernhard Willhelm, FELDER·FELDER and Markus Lupfer run successful businesses in foreign countries and usually show on catwalk in Paris or London. Thanks to the high production standards of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin and the huge media interest in this event they finally find ideal premises to show their collections in their home country. Suzana Peric, UGG Australia with Antonia Zander Cashmere and 30paarhaende will present their ideas for the upcoming autumn and winter.

The whole city of Berlin will once more turn into a giant fashion hub and lots of offsite events always entertain the crowds. ACHTUNG Mode will present Sibylle Bergemann and Rodarte at The Corner, GALA Fashion Brunch invites their guests to a one-of-a-kind get together with a number of designers and reams of other creative activities will give plenty of opportunities to explore the city in its whole diversity, while the national and international media will assure that the rest of the world cannot miss the fact that Berlin has marked its spot in the fashion and glamour cosmos.
