Zvonko Markovic Couture

Serbian couturier ZVONKO MARKOVIC welcomes you to the presentation of his first official show in Paris. His new Fall-Winter 2015/16 couture collection is titled "NIGHT MOTH". It is both the expression and celebration of a caterpillar's journey into becoming a moth.

Using noble materials such as hand-ripped silks, lace, tulle, silk georgette, anaconda skins, silk jersey, leather and satin, the couturier forms the outer initial layers of the caterpillar's existence. Each leg of its journey is depicted in colors of black, hazelnut, gold and baked cream.

We see it enveloped in its cocoon where it begins its final transformation. As it finally emerges we see its cracked cocoon represented in the forms of the silhouettes with their soft rounded and jagged edges. We see its natural attraction to night flames reflected in the dark gold leather, which celebrates its coming into nature.

ZVONKO MARKOVIC is a skilled couturier from Belgrade, Serbia. Since becoming a full-time designer, he has excelled in the Balkan traditions of leather crafting, which along with clever laces, delicate embroideries and leathers have become his signatures. A true craftsman, he uses leather in the way that a sculpture would use clay to bring attention to the woman's naturally formed silhouette.

MARKOVIC understands that "a woman's shoulders are the most beautiful part of her body as they are always the last thing to age". Therefore each of his gowns is crafted from shoulders downwards. They sculpt the bust; and bring attention to the delicate waistline while accentuating die hips. The combination creates a beautiful portrait of a worldly woman who moves effortlessly through space and time, dius becoming more immortal with each step taken.

The couturier was born on April 11, 1975 in the former Yugoslavia in Podgorica (today located in Montenegro). At an early age his mother taught him the craft of making detailed garments by hand. In 1983 he moved to Belgrade to continue his studies at the Faculty of Applied Arts and Design. Training under renowned Professor Ljiljana Zegarac, he graduated with top honors from the Costumes & Contemporary Fashion department. Since that time he has shown his ready-to-wear collections each season in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Russia, etc.
